We are seeking qualified candidates with a background in Nematology to join our growing team as a Research Associate, who will work closely with our Nematology Scientists and High-Throughout Screening Manager to plan, setup and assess bioassays. This position will also work closely with our Machine Learning Engineer and Data Scientist to develop image-derived nematode evaluations in support of automated analysis of experimental results.


To support the discovery and development of sustainable, safe and environmentally friendly nematode control products by performing research in plant nematology. To identify new nematicidal compounds and apply our targeted delivery technologies by conducting high throughput in-vitro and in-planta nematode screening assays using the model organism C. elegans.


  • Plan and perform experiments in support of research projects at Terramera’s lab and/or greenhouse based on knowledge of scientific theory, interpreting and performing basic analyses of results;
  • Conduct lab experiments both independently and collaboratively as a team, primarily using C. elegans and plant parasitic nematodes;
  • Setup greenhouse experiments, including preparing soil/sand mixes, filling containers with soil/sand mixes and inoculating with nematodes;
  • Assist with general nematode culture and stock maintenance of C. elegans;
  • Operate lab equipment, including microscopes, plate readers, centrifuges, incubators, autoclaves and pH meters;
  • Develop, write and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS) in the nematology lab;
  • Assist with literature review and development of grant proposals; and
  • Support the training, mentoring and supervision of co-op students.


  • BSc, MSc or PhD degree in Nematology or related biological science;
  • Experience working with or knowledge of nematology biology, including C. elegans and plant parasitic nematodes;
  • Experience designing, executing and assessing lab and greenhouse experiments; and
  • Comfortable working with plants, soil and using microscopes.


  • Strong interpersonal, communication and decision-making skills;
  • Demonstrated ability in problem solving and working in a dynamic environment;
  • Curiosity and creativity in meeting challenges and obstacles;
  • Desire for interdisciplinary collaboration and openness to “out of the box” ideas; and
  • Flexibility to work in accordance with the needs of experiments being performed.
